6/03/2023 | The Bioaromatic Research Centre in collaboration with UMP Holdings has visited the HOGA Gaharu Tea Valley area, this visit involves representatives from the Bioaromatic Research Centre, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saiful Nizam Tajuddin (Director of BioAromatic Research Centre) and Mohamad Farhan Sayuti (Technical Assistant), while the representative from UMP Holdings are Mr. Kamaludin Latifi Ghazali (UMP Technology advisor) and Mrs. Rofiza Mansor (Senior Executive, Business Development).

The purpose of this visit is to discuss how to establish a relationship between the BioAromatic Research Centre and HOGA Agarwood Tea Valley through joint efforts in advancing the agarwood industry.

HOGA Gaharu Tea Valley has started since 1992, at the initial stage the founder of Hoga planted 200 seeds on an area of ​​300 acres of land, now the number of agarwood trees has reached hundreds of thousands, the recipe passed down through generations has been used by the new generation to produce highly nutritious agarwood tea. Therefore it is not surprising that HOGA Gaharu has been listed in the "Malaysia Book of Records" as the 1st organic plantation in Malaysia.

Working visit from the Malaysian Cocoa Board to the UMP Gambang Bioaromatic Center.The purpose of this visit is to discuss the research results of the collaborative project between LKM and the Bioaromatic Center. In addition, the discussion also included some potential new collaboration projects with LKM.This visit was led by YBrs. Dr Ramle Kasin is the Director General of the Malaysian Cocoa Board. Also present are YBrs. Dr. Albert Ling Sheng Chang (Director of the Biotechnology Division), Dr. Zainal Baharum (Research Officer) and Mr. Mohamed Yusof Ishak (Economic Affairs Officer).

Bioaromatic Research Centre has participated in Cocoa Invention, Innovation & Exhibition (CIIE) 2022 organized by The Malaysian Cocoa Board (MCB) which was held at Cocoa Biotechnology Research Center (CBRC) located in Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) on 21-23 July 2022. The contested category is innovative products that are beneficial, reusable, up-to-date, and have the potential to improve the quality of cocoa products, such as the production of attractive and premium chocolate box designs.

Sensor Aroma Koko, an innovative e-Nose odor sensor technology using artificial intelligence, AI to improve the evaluations of cocoa beans quality had won the gold medal for the non-food category. The Director of BioAromatic Research Centre, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saiful Nizam Tajuddin as a representative for the research teams (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sharfi Najib, Suhaimi Mohd Daud and Nik Fatin Nabilah Muhammad Nordin) also received the best innovation award for Sensor Aroma Koko. The award was presented by MCB Chairwoman Rahimah Majid. Also present were MCB Director- General Dr Ramle Hj Kasin and his Deputy (R&D) Dr Ahmad Kamil Mohd Jaaffar.

Another invention product showcased for the food category was Cocoa Green Tea, has been awarded with the silver medal. Cocoa Green Tea is a collaboration project between MCB-UMP. The research is conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saiful Nizam bin Tajuddin, Dr Zainal bin Baharum, and Nurul Aishah binti Mohd Tamizi.
